Worcester Area Rental Unit Funding
The Worcester Business Journal is reporting that four central Massachusetts cities will be receiving significant government funding as part of “$80 million in government funding and $40 million in tax credits” to “preserve and produce nearly 1,600 housing rental units in Massachusetts.” The four cities located in Central Massachusetts include: Fitchburg, Lunenburg, Southbridge, and Worcester. The majority of the funding and credits will go to affordable units and low-income households.
In a press release issued by the state earlier this month, Governor Charlie Baker is quoted as saying “We are pleased to announce these Affordable Rental Housing Awards to advance the production and preservation of more than 1,500 rental housing units throughout the state.” Furthermore, “Housing that meets the needs of residents is the foundation for thriving communities, supporting strong neighborhoods and vibrant downtowns.”
The move by the administration further highlights the rapid growth and consumption of rental properties throughout Worcester and the surrounding communities.
